Based on the memoirs of Lidia Yuknavitch, the film tells the story of a young woman who experienced psychological and sexual abuse in childhood. After leaving her parents’ home, Lidia seeks solace in exhausting swimming training sessions, and later in alcohol, drugs, and sexual experimentation. She manages to escape the spiral of loss and self-destruction when she discovers her unique voice as a writer and transforms her traumatic experiences into literature.
